Marilyn Bogerd, Mike Roddy, and Alan B. Scarritt established Site (later Site, Cite, Sight, Inc.) in San Francisco “to support artists without regard to its commercial potential” (brochure). During the initial years the founders curated 32 single-artist shows and held two group shows. The process evolved into an “artists choosing artists” series in which those artists were asked to select an artist from the submitted proposals for a solo or thematic show. The artist-run space also housed studios and a resource center featuring national and international publications, artist’s books, and periodicals.
Today’s post is drawn from a much larger collection of announcements for shows at Site’s loft space at 585 Mission St. (1976–82). These are filed under Site or dispersed amongst the artist files.
