SECA 50th Anniversary Artist on Artist Talks: David Best on Joan Brown
February 1, 2012 | ByFiled under: One on One
In conjunction with Fifty Years of Bay Area Art: The SECA Awards, we’ve restyled our weekly in-gallery talks with a superb lineup of past SECA Art awardees. Each Thursday at 6:30pm an artist talks about something on view. Last week, sculptor David Best (1977 SECA Art Award) talked about Joan Brown, and her painting Noel in the Kitchen:

How nice it is to listen to David Best’s comments about Joan Brown. Her last studio in San Francisco on Yosemite Avenue was next to mine. Noel’s studio was on the other side. I got to know her during the time I spent at Charles Campbell’s Gallery on Chestnut Street and from The Dolphin Club where we both swam in the icy-cold bay. Her day in India was such a sad moment. Thank you David Best for your kind memories.
