I've known Terry for a number of years and recently we were "reacquainted" thru a professional/business relationship. He has changed only for the better. His work continues to be technically masterful and introspective. I marvel at his sustained ability to make fresh images of the mundane--albeit with a Northcentral Pennsylvania twist. He is one of this areas finest fine art photographers and is well deserving of more than a "nod" from such a prestigious art community.

Such a fantastic post, Renny, and I'm excited to see TW's work. I can't believe it's already been a year since you started writing here! and hope you'll drop in now and again. Or I'll have to have you back in some other formal capacity... Happy holidays dear Renny. xoxo

I first stumbled across Terry's work 4 years ago and was amazed at the very realization that Renny puts forth above - how the "Crowded Vacancy" show presaged what New Topographics would present to a somewhat broader audience 4 years later. It should be pointed out, however, that despite the mythical reputation that NT has gained in the years since, it may well be one of the most important shows that (virtually) no one saw.

Having collected a number of prints by Terry from both this series and a later body of work that can be seen in the 1974 Photography Year book from Time Life, I feel this work can clearly stand with all but the very highest level of work in NT. And the fact that Fred Parker had the brilliance to pair this work with Lewis' and Tony's says much the same thing. BTW, two of Terry's images are also reproduced in the book documenting this time at the Pasadena Art Museum called "the collectible moment".

Terry and I were classmates during those early years. We used to go shooting together in LA and sometimes we would stand side-by-side and photograph the same material. I was always astonished by what came out of his camera (and disappointed at what came out of mine). We all knew Terry was a genius and we treasured him for it. It's wonderful that he may get some well-deserved recognition for the power and importance of his work. It certianly shaped our thinking, if not our approach to the imagery. And like he says above, thanks for giving him a kick in the butt. I've been trying to do the same thing for years, but he never listens to me.

Renny- Don't worry- you have not crushed my roof. You have helped remind me how the themes and views we carry span a lifetime, and all is not for naught. Thanks for the words and kick in the butt!
