She was just as described and I must say was an inspiration to me and my experiences with her helped form my own confidence to become involved in graphic arts. Beulah and my Hammond High School art teacher Olga Schubkegel were 'round pegs' that did not fit in the 'square holes' in Hammond, Indiana. They did however make their own mark in that conservative, and often bigoted community. Vision in Motion is a wonderful 'bible' for artists/designers that I learned about from Miss Schubkegel who also saw to it that I received a scholarship to IIT-Institute of Design, an amazing opportunity for me that laid the groundwork for my opportunities to work as a graphic artist in Chicago in the sixties and seventies. I think about these women often. I love reading about the influence on others...and I am sure there are many others 'out there'.

Beulah Seckinger was my art teacher through most of my grammar school years at Edison School (the old building – now replaced) and was the sister of Pat Senney (husband Ed Senney=my dad’s newspaper reporter cohort).
